The reasons you should wear sunscreen every day

Some of us don’t really know why it is so important to use sunscreen on our faces every single day. For quite a long time I didn’t know it either, although those few minutes that we spend putting on sunscreen is game changing. But why exactly is this so important?

First of all in case of preventing skin cancer it is important to protect our skin against UV light from the sun. Our faces are exposed to the sun all year round that’s why without protection it can cause damage in the DNA in the skin cells. It causes an oxidation method that produces more free radicals. These can damage the skin cells, and in the long run can even cause skin cancer. The main hazard is not even the primary tumor rather the metastasis often occures in the liver, lungs and brain. Sounds kind of bad, right? You can prevent all of this by spending 1-2 minutes with putting on sunscreen every morning.

The second reason why you should wear sunscreen every day is to prevent aging. I think nobody wants to have deep wrinkles by the time they turn 25-30. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with aging, it’s a natural process but especially us, women we want to decelerate it. We can do small things to do so from the age of 20, one of the most important is to use sunscreen. The aging of the skin is caused 80-90% by the exposure of the sun. It becomes visible first on the face, hands and neck, due to them being exposed to the sun almost all the time.

Lastly I really recommend using sunscreen if you are struggling with hyperpigmentation (drak spots, acne scars, melasma ect.) because the sun can make it even worse.

I would like to add that obviously not just our faces need protection against the sun. The neck, hands and neckline are often exposed to the sun but in the summertime almost all of our skin surfaces are out.

Sunscreen is not just necessary when the sun is out, it should be used every day of the year. For 2 years now I use sunscreen on my face every day in the summer but since December 2017 I use it every day. It can leave an unwanted white layer on the face so I use my SPF50+ sunscreen with a mattifying daycream in the morning. Don’t forget to reapply it in every 2 hours.

After all I’d like to recommend 4 products that I use daily.

The first one is my SPF50+ sunscreen from the brand Babylove. It’s relatively cheap, sufficient for quite a long time, you can find it in the dm shops.

The other sunscreen I use is from the brand Paula’s Choice. It’s a daytime hydrating cream with SPF, I like it but it has only SPF30 in it, and it is not enough for my skintype, I like the SPF50+ better. It’s definitely pricier, I only bought the Deluxe size to try it out.

Most of us forget about protecting the lips from the sun, my all time favourite lip balm with SPF is the Forever Sun Lips. It has SPF30 in it with a cooling effect which is really nice. In an earlier post I wrote about the regular lip balm from Forever, how much I like it. The Sun Lips has the same benefits plus the SPF.

I left the best one to the end. In April I started to use the Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion from The Ordinary and it’s really effective. It decelerates the aging process, lightens the scars, in result makes the skin more even. I use it every night on my face, neck and hands, I’m sure I’ll buy it again if it runs out.

I hope you liked this blog post and don’t forget to use your sunscreen every day!
